CAMPAIGN:
TURBOTAX: WHAT DID YOU MAKE THIS YEAR?
season 4
over the course of 4 years, This Campaign has told real customer stories in every corner of Canada, nearing 20 films in total.
This work was created as a means of reshaping the rigid stigma that audiences had come to expect from a tax software company, helping the brand steer towards a more human, more emotional, and more empathetic place.
This season, we created 5 subject films and photography, further enhancing the campaign to fill the GAPS in capturing the infinite breadth of inspirational canadian stories.

RICCARDO BALDINI
Riccardo Baldini dreamt of being a farmer and concert pianist since he was a child. At 26 years old, that was all taken away when a blood vessel burst in his spine overnight. Riccardo’s story is one of tenacity in the face of extreme adversity, and the value of following a dream, no matter what.

PILGRIMME RESTAURANT
We’ve all heard stories (and many of us have lived them) of working in hectic, unhealthy, drug and alcohol fuelled hospitality environments. Going against that grain, Jesse and Melanie set out to create the Anti-Restaurant.
Together they’ve built a world class dining experience in the rainforest of Galiano Island, BC. Their ingredients are grown, raised, foraged and harvested extremely locally, with the utmost respect being paid to the land they live and thrive on.
This story was a special focus on TurboTax’s new Incorporated Small Business Tax service, which led to a slightly more product-focused story, while still balancing the tale of the beautiful journey that Jesse and Mel have taken to get to Galiano.

FRÉDÉRIC DUTIL | APIKOL DISTILLERIE
Frédéric Dutil’s life is steered by an absolute devotion to sustainability. Using his background in biotechnology, he started a number of businesses over the years, before finally founding Apikol – one of the worlds most sustainable distilleries.
Frederic creates mead, gins and other spirits using honey from their urban bee hives, placed around Quebec City. His goal is to be a role model for his community, to show that success in business is not mutually exclusive from responsible, sustainable, meaningful work.
This was our French language film for this season.

BRITTNEE HABBIB | GiRL POWERED
Brittnee Habbib was raised a competitor – she found gymnastics at an extremely early age, and began climbing the ranks of competition immediately. She competed at provincials, nationals, worlds, and was set to compete in the Olympics, but was rejected from the team, despite qualifying.
In the shadow of her rejection, Brittnee started Girl Powered, a gymnastics school for black girls in Toronto, using her skills and perspective to empower them to explore their potential as athletes and as people.

ALAMAIYA ROSA
The stories we’ve told throughout this series are most often about people with incredible pasts, impressive triumphs, and emotional tales of struggles gone by. But Alamaiya’s story was a little bit different.
Currently in her early 20’s, Alamaiya is still finding her path, discovering who she is and figuring out what imprint she wants to leave on the world.
Currently working as a teacher, a glass artist, and a barista, all while attending university, Alamaiya’s story is one of exploration and transformation.
